KWF Hilger

The company Eck & Sons was founded in 1849 and over the next one hundred years grew to become a leading manufacturer of calendering machines for the paper and textile industry. In 1874, the company also started to manufacture the specialist range of calender rollers used in the finishing and processing of paper and textiles. My grandfather, Dr. Franz Hilger, bought the company in 1928 and oversaw Eck’s expansion, which saw it become the global market leader in the manufacture of large calender machines and their rollers. The name Eck & Sons (Eck Calender Machines) came to symbolize quality and longevity, the world over. Today, Eck Machines are still being used around the globe. My family sold the calendering machine business to Escher Wyss AG in 1973, but retained the part of the company that manufactured rollers. Operating under the name of Kalanderwalzenfabrik (KWF) GmbH & Co. KG, the new company, headed by my father, Mr. Paul Hilger, supplied new and recovered / relined rolls to leading paper and textile companies around the world.

Although, the KWF was sold to Kleinewefers GmbH & Co. KG in 1989 and subsequently to Voith Paper GmbH & Co. KG in 1994, the roll workshop remained on my family’s property in Düsseldorf. At the end of 2010, we had the opportunity to buy back the roll workshop from Voith Paper and operating under the new name of Kalanderwalzenfabrik (KWF) Hilger GmbH & Co. KG, we are proud to serve a very diverse and international client base.

The company looks back on an almost 150 year old tradition in calender roll manufacture. The great breadth of experience offered by its staff, under the technical leadership of Mr. Dieter von Zalewski, will ensure that all your technical requirements will be met.
