Squeezing rolls for the textile industry

Roberto™

High expression squeezing rollers

Exclusively manufactured by KWF Hilger GmbH & Co. KG, Roberto™ rolls are a high-performance replacement for conventional rubber or PU squeezing rolls, with significantly improved expression and greatly improved service life over rubber and PU.

Applications

  • High efficiency liquid extraction from woven, knitted and non-woven fabrics
  • High efficiency liquid extraction from loose stock fibres – e.g. Rayon ‘after-treatment’ lines

Constructions

Roberto™ fibre rolls are constructed from high-grade steel centre shafts with steel or stainless-steel end plates which retain a highly compressed micro-porous fibre cover of mixed fibres coated with a synthetic binder material. A range of Roberto™ materials is available to suit various textile industry applications. Roberto™ roll covers are composed of a fibre-based matrix with a porous surface and interior. The fibres are bonded together mechanically and by thermal and chemical treatment. The cover has about 40% void volume (small interconnected cavities). The resilience of the fibres and the elastic characteristics of the binding system ensure the porous / open structure has a high degree of flexibility, elasticity and strength.

Performance

Roberto’s™ outstanding squeezing performance is achieved through a combination of the squeezing action and powerful capillary suction. As the fabric enters the nip, excess liquid is removed by squeezing, and immediately after the nip extra liquid is sucked into the Roberto™ roll, resulting in an increased squeezing performance of 20-50% compared to conventional rubber and PU rolls.

Benefits

  • Excellent squeezing performance due to combined squeezing and capillary suction effect (20-50% increase compared to rubber and PU)
  • Higher speeds of drying are attainable
  • Roberto™ rolls enable significant energy consumption savings (up to 40%)
  • Rapid pay-back of investment – initial outlay can be offset by energy savings in only a few months
  • Specially developed for resistance to most processing chemicals
  • Gentler squeezing action due to extreme resiliency, compared to hard rolls which can damage the fibre construction of fabrics
  • Roberto™ rolls can be used to replace other types of squeezing rolls and can be run together with metal, ebonite or hard rubber rolls
  • Roberto™ rolls can be reground many more times than conventional squeezing rolls due to the thickness of the cover material, leading to significantly increased roll life

Expression Results

The expression results illustrated below were achieved at 50m / minute, 54kg / cm load, and at 20°C

Nollap™

High expression squeezing rolls for viscose fibres

Applications

Nollap™ fibre rolls are for use in the high efficiency squeezing of viscose staple fibres and yarns. Residual moisture of around 100% is usually obtained, with consequent huge energy savings compared to squeezing with a rubber roll or with 2x steel rolls.

Descriptions

Nollap™ fibre rolls have a highly compressed micro-porous ‘filling’ of special fibres, individually coated with a latex compound, which permanently binds them together.

Operation

  • Viscose fibres are very hygroscopic in nature and do not release liquid easily. Fibres are free flowing making the mat thickness uneven which puts differing stress at the nip of the roller.
  • Viscose fibres are sensitive to contamination. KWF designs and manufactures Nollap™ rollers for this specialized application and uses materials which cannot contaminate the fibres.
  • We have mastered the technology by developing a high torque design for this operation. We are continuously upgrading / improving Nollap™ rollers based on R & D endeavour and customers feedback.
  • As fibre or yarn enters the nip, excess liquor is removed by squeezing, and immediately after the nip, extra liquor is sucked into the partially evacuated roll, thus creating a highly efficient extraction system.

Benefits

  • Residual moisture of around 100% is usually obtained, with consequent huge energy savings at the dryers
  • A big advantage compared to steel or rubber covered rollers is that an uneven fibre bed is no problem for the Nollap™ roller
  • Damage marks recover easily due to the resilient nature of the ‘filling’ material
  • Foreign objects such as small machinery parts or other debris simply sink into the roller and need not be removed
  • Unlike rubber rolls which are easily damaged and cannot withstand high squeezing pressures, the Nollap™ fibre rolls, due to their laminated construction and high degree of resilience recover quickly
  • Squeezing pressures in excess of 215kg / linear cm can be obtained with Nollap™ fibre rolls
  • Nollap™ fibre rolls give an average 20% saving in power consumption over conventional rubber rolls
  • Nollap™ fibre rolls can be reground to remove any unusually deep marks
  • Nollap™ fibre rolls can simply replace other types of squeezing rolls and can be refilled when the minimum diameter is reached
  • The operating benefits of Nollap™ fibre rolls outweigh many times the price
  • Nollap™ fibre rolls improve the squeezing effect without putting any pressure on the fibres
  • Nollap™ fibre rolls have a co-efficient of friction that is much higher in comparison to metal / rubber rolls, eliminating slippage
  • High co-efficient of friction in Nollap™ fibre rolls gives better quality viscose fibres with no hard spots or breakage and no shine on the viscose fibres
  • Nollap™ fibre rolls last more than 5 years in general and the payback period is less than one year

Robertex™

Chemically resistant rollers

Introducing the Robertex™ – the first ever chemically resistant high expression fibre squeezing roll specially designed to perform in aggressive Textile Processing environments. The ideal choice for use in harsh caustic or acidic environments.

Applications

  • High efficiency liquid extraction from woven. knitted and nonwoven fabrics
  • High efficiency liquid extraction from loose stock fibres – e.g. Rayon ‘after-treatment’ lines

Construction

Robertex™ Fibre rolls are constructed from high grade steel centre shafts with steel or stainless-steel end plates which retain a highly compressed micro-porous fibre cover of mixed fibres coated with a synthetic binder material. A range of Robertex™ materials is available to suit various textile industry applications.

Robertex™ roll covers are composed of a fibre-based matrix with a porous surface and interior. The fibres are bonded together mechanically and by thermal and chemical treatment. The cover has about 40% void volume (small interconnected cavities). The resilience of the fibres and the elastic characteristics of the binding system ensure the porous / open structure has a high degree of flexibility, elasticity and strength.

Benefits

The ideal choice for use in harsh caustic or acidic environments

  • Operating pH range: 0-14
  • Maximum temperature: 100c
  • Robertex™ is a high-performance alternative to rubber rolls
  • Due to its unique non-woven synthetic fibre production. Robertex™ can outlast rubber rolls by 10x with exceptional energy-saving dewatering power
  • Reduced chemical costs- by reducing carry-out and cross-contamination, Robertex™ can help reduce your fluid consumption and cut the cost of waste disposal
  • Robertex™ can last significantly longer than rubber rolls, so require changing less frequently which results in fewer stoppages and more uptime
